Making homemade infused oils is a great way to impart different flavors in simple recipes, such as a base for a vinaigrette or drizzling on top of a finished dish. Flavored oils are also a great way to use extra herbs or aromatics you may have on hand. Follow the guide below to make your own.
Preparation:
Combine the flavor components of your choice with the oil in a small pot or saucepan. The ratio does not have to be exact but the aromatics should be completely covered by the oil by about 1 inch. The more aromatics you add, the more flavorful the oil will be.
Warm on low heat but before oil starts to sizzle - just warm enough to the touch.
Remove oil from heat and let steep for 15 minutes to help infuse the flavors.
Strain infused oil through a fine-mesh strainer directly into a clean glass bottle or jar.
Cover with lid and store in the refrigerator.
Optional: Once the oil is cool, transfer it to a user-friendly squeeze bottle for easy everyday use.
